Three Murder Defendants Reject DA's "Deal"...Swag Part Deux? Print E-mail

You remember the Swag Murder Trial which ended the first week of December, right? If you don’t, there are links a plenty at the end of this post to remind you but that was the murder trial with no body and three defendants with ended with a mistrial.

Well, the Albany District Attorney’s office has made an offer to each of the three defendants. To Ricky Thornton, repped by Holly Trexler, an offer was made of “burglary” (down from “murder”) with 12 years “in” and five years of post release plus cooperation with the prosecution. Jason Benn, repped by Feit, Esq and charged with the same “murder” charges as Thornton but with the additional charges involving using the missing man, Swag’s, credit card and stuffing his body down a manhole cover, was offered 8 years and the same “conditions,” and the third defendant, Louis Chaney, repped by Michael Mansion, was offered five years and, again, the same sides as his fellow defendants.

All three of the defendants turned down the District Attorney’s offer.

So, it sounds like we may have “Swag Murder: Part Deux” on the horizon…the distant horizon as at least two of the defendant’s attorneys have rather tight schedules through the Spring. While, I don’t know, I’m assuming another plea bargain could come, I don’t believe these defendants, who are adamant about not having committed a crime, will accept anything less than a walk. And a walk, if there was no crime committed, they deserve.

I for one would truly welcome the Swag Murder Trial Part Deux right before a primary election but I’m thinking there may be at least one person in Albany who wouldn’t.
